Voice recognition SMS
Posted October 2nd, 2008 by David HamillI loved this article about the death of answer mail. Apparently it’s going to be taken over by voice recognition converted into SMS messages. It sounds like a great idea. But what exactly are those texts going to read like? Here’s an example of how one of mine might read,
“Hi John it’s David Hamill here, I’m just eh phoning you to discuss the eh proposal you eh sent me. Eh well there are eh a few eh things we need to discuss if we’re going to meet these timescales. If you could give me a phone eh when ever you have a minute that would be great. I’m well, I’m in the office until three and then I’m giving a client presentation so I won’t be able to chat until tomorrow. oh yeah i nearly forgot to give you my number, its…”
Now I’m presuming that this voice recognition system is going to recognise my accent. If it’s anything like that rail enquiries one, the message might come out a bit more like this.
“Hi John it’s Donkey Home Low here, I’m just eh proning you to discuss the eh proposal you eh sealed me. Eh well there are eh a flute eh things we need to discuss if white going to meet these trombones. If you could give me a prone eh when ever you have a minute that would be Greek. I’m well, I’m in the bodice until three and then I’m giving a giant fermentation. So I won’t be feabled to bat until Toblerone. oh yeah i nearly frog hopped to give you my naan bread, its…”
The article says that it can be expected within the next few years. I’m intrigued.
