An expert usability review is a rapid usability technique that is carried out by someone who has a lot of experience in website usability testing.
How it works
A usability expert walks through the important tasks on a website while looking for usability issues. The expert can identify these issues because they have seen them arise in the previous usability tests they have observed.
The expert then reports back with an explanation of each issue and provides a practical recommendation for resolving them.
When to do an expert review
An expert review can be used when the budget or time does not exist to carry out usability testing.
However it can also be beneficial to carry out an expert review before usability testing. This allows you to identify and resolve the more obvious problems first. This removes the risk of the tests being dominated by issues that an expert could have predicted beforehand.
